So I have an 2000 ex 4x4 7.3l. One of my auto locking hubs is bad. Won't disengage without pulling hub off and fiddling with mechanism inside. I'd like to keep the auto feature but am willing to loose that sense I have to manually lock right now anyways. Bad seals. Anyone recommend some aftermarket ones. Also was wondering if the auto hubs off an 2006 f250/350 would fit on mine.
Up in the tech folder sticky there are 3 threads on servicing the hubs, part#s etc. That may help before you ditch the ESOF. I've been using it a bit the past couple days and I know I want to keep it.
On mine its not so much about servicing them. I already did that. I broke the manual lock twist part. I can still manually lock the hubs and if I replaced the seals the auto lock would work. Just the one I broke doesn't unlock after its been locked. So I need to replace just the one. I definitely don't want to get rid of the auto part but for the price of one factory hub I can get manual only hubs. I'm going to check out a truck only junkyard soon and see if I can get a good used one. Only reason I'm asking about the 06 and newer hubs is because I like the look. Who knows the newer style hubs may be in that junkyard as well. So I wanted to ask b4 I buy and find out they don't work.
2006 and up hubs are different and will not fit on your 2000 excursion. The locking hubs we have were made from 1999-2005. Used on Ford trucks and Excursions. To keep the vacuum operated feature try to find a good used one..... if it isn't exactly like yours on your truck then it's a no go.... good luck.

Thanks bro. That's what I wanted to know. I'm going to try to find a good used one. If not ill buy the manual ones.

I had some vacuum leaks, and a small window of warm (+20F) weather, and had to go with the Warn Premiums... I love knowing when I flip the switch, I have no question about how many wheels are turning.
When the weather is nice, I almost never use the 4wd. I will just free wheel it then, unless something odd comes up.
I remember seeing some on summit for like $130 or so. Don't remember if there were warn or not but still a manual hub. For 1 stock new one on eBay was like 170 if I remember correctly. Its been a while sense I've looked.
I couldn't find much better pricing and still get them in a decent amount of time. But I have been told I am not as smart as 99% of others at least once tonight.
So (just to be clear i understand how these auto hubs work vs the manual ones) If the auto hubs are on auto they disengage when the TC goes to 2WD and the front drive shaft, diff and axles just float? Then when the TC goes into 4WD the hub re-engage right? The manual ones i assume are always spinning the front axles and drive shaft regardless of whether the TC is engaged so the down side is wear on the front diff and additional rolling resistance?

What's a TC ? The aftermarket ones do the same thing as the stock ones except they won't work from inside, which is why I see no reason to buy aftermarket ones. When unlocked both will leave everything still including the front u-joints.
Oh, transf case
I put Warn on my 00 Ex. Worth every penny. I leave them locked in the winter and free in the summer. I've used Warn on other axles/hubs before and a little advise, turn the **** on each hub back and forth between free and lock once a month and pull them apart and grease them at least once a year. They'll outlast the truck under normal driving conditions.
