I have a 2003 F250 V10 Crew cab. I bought it about two years ago. The truck came with daytime running lights. I noticed that when I had the selector switch all the way to the left the DRLs where activated. The dash lights were not lit until the ambient light got darker.
Now the dash lights are on all the time and it makes my stereo and overhead temperature display dimmer. Making it hard for me to see the temperature during the day. The only way to brighten up my stereo and overhead console is to have the selector switch on the off position.
Is this correct or is there something wrong with my DRLs?
Yea that's what I think. I called the ford dealer in town and the lady was very helpful. I wonder if there's like an ambient light sensor that's not working correctly
It sounds like your headlights are coming on rather than DRL.
I have DRL module I ordered and installed on my last 3 Florida crew cab trucks ('00 Dually Diesel, '02 250 v10, '05 250 v10) and it puts the headlamps (only) on after 45 secs or something at a lower percentage of light and does not dim any panel lights or turn on any other lamps.
I keep the switch in auto position and if the lights go on either by the sensor or manually, the DRL module shuts off.
The DRL module is very particular about which wires are connected to what, so if you indeed have one it might be wired wrong or it may have gone bad.
If your truck has auto headlights, then the sensor is at the front of the dash under the center of the windshield. Make sure you don't have anything covering it or that it has any dirt on it.
If your light switch has more than 3 positions (off, marker, and headlight), you have auto lamps. Another way to tell, DRLs are ONLY the headlights. If your markers and tail lights are on, you have auto lamps.
