I know a lot of you are freezeing right now. But, it was in the 70's in Texas yesterday. So with that said , I turned on my a/c and only hot air came out. I turned the a/c off and when I got hime I opened the the hood to have a look. First off I noticed I have NO air gap on the a/c clutch. No matter what I tried the the clutch would not open. I tried turning the a/c on and off. I unpluged the compressor all to no avail. So does this mean a new compressor ? Or is there more that could be going wrong ? Thanks in advace for the help.
I forgot to say about 8 months ago I changed the shim on the a/c clutch. Only because the air would blow cold then warm and so on. It worked perfectly after the corrected air gap even with the defrost, till now.
The clutch is electromagnet; it should disengage when power is removed. I see a lot of people her adjusting shims. Whatever works. But, often the issue is corroded connections reducing current and not energizing the magnet. And perhaps some are just worn.
If it's not cooling, put a set of gauges on it and see what pressures are.
If the air was warm / cool as described that's more than likely the mixer door.
Well I feel stupid. I looked at my truck last night in low light. Now today I look at it again I know why I do not have an air gap. The clutch is gone.
No, I bought the blue loc tite and put it on there. Just like your write up. Then tourqed it down. But, the shime kit came with a new bolt and I used it instead of the old one. Do not know if that had anything to do with it.

The bolt's "newness" likely had nothing to do with it.
BTW, if I recall correctly, the clutch plate is available separately (I think I have seen them on eBay), if that's the way you want to go.
However, if it were me, I'd replace the clutch/pulley assembly, which costs about a hundred dollars.
