When I am coming to a stop in my E99 I hear a loud clunk under the truck. It can be felt by both myself and the passenger and it happens every time I slow down to a stop. Would this likely be U-joints? If so how to I check them to be sure? If not what else should I check?
Do you have a two-piece drive line with a slip yoke in the middle? (My van should have had that, but instead it has the dang slip yoke on the transfer case tail piece which is a known leak problem.) On the Bronco, the slip yoke between the two-piece driveline was often the source of that mysterious clunk. No need to disassemble the ujoints, just grease the slip yoke splines.
Could be the ball joints. Mine did that when breaking hard and would clunk. I never fixed it though because I got rid of the truck. You might want to check your front sway bar for play as well.
