132,000 miles on this baby and just starting to have problems that I cant resolve. Anyone know about starting problems. Only after driving a short distance.
Seriously though, we're not psychics, if you're having specific problems, give us some info, we can probably help ya.
There's not much that can go wrong with these trucks that at least one of us hasn't already run into...
Hi Dainbramage:
Let me start from the beginning. Up untill 3 weeks ago, the 92 Ranger 3.0 6cyl was doing fine. Then I was driving, came to a stop sign, and when I began to go, it stalled. It was hard starting again but I got it started. Drove it for a few days, no problem. Next day drove it, staopped at the lights, started to go and it stalled. Got it going again and got to the mall. It would not start again. Had it towed. The garage did some tests and replaced the Throttle Position Sensor. It did not help. Machanic didn't think it was the fuel pump but couldn't give me an anwere. Took it to another garage that had more testing equip. They replaced the MAF sensor. Drove it home and it seemed ok. Next morning, started out, came to a stop sign, started to go and it stalled. They said it wouldn't stall for them so I picked it up today and it stalled 6 times with in 3 miles. I doubt if they even looked at it again. I've been told by some people that it is the fuel pump even if it checks out ok. Well, that's the story. Would really be happy if you find me the answer. Thanks for anything you can supply me. Tom
I would start by determining what the cause is of the no start, either its no gas or no spark. Checking for codes might help to, procedure is in the tech info post.
Ken, they checked for codes and they said there were none. When you said no gas or no spark, can that happen off and on like that? And how would that happen? I would like to know for my own knowledge. Thanks.
I went through the similar problem.
I replaced the fuel pump and that wasn't it.
I replaced the fuel filter that wasn't it either.
I finally found a rubber vacuum plug when hot
It expanded and at idle under a load it wanted to stall.
I replaced the 2 rubber vacuum plugs plus I used a nylon
Wire tie around the plug and the problem went away.
I also found transmission fluid in the vacuum lines but that's
another story. Good luck and I hope you find the problem and tell
us all.
Start easy though too, try changing the plugs and wires, shouldnt be more than 30 or 40 bucks. and also try pulling the fuel line off the back of the filter, and have someone (while your holding the line at an upward angle and away from the truck) put you ignition in the "run" position (where it is when you drive) and if the pump is working, then fuel will shoot out, if its not working, it wont really do anything. If it works, then i would try replacing the fuel line in between the fuel filter and the injection bar. Let us know.... p.s. this can all be done for under 100 bucks, plus, it cant hurt anything to have new stuff under there even if its not the soul of your problem. Good luck.
Try replacing the fuel pump relay thats located in the power distribution box. I have a 94 ranger with a 2.3L and had the same problem. Would be at a light just after starting my truck and taking off when it would just dye, I'd have to sit there for 1-2 min and then it would start again. If this happens again, check to see if the relay is HOT right after it dye's on you
