oem rear sliding window!!!

I have an 01 f250 Superduty and have the manual rear sliding window and was wondering if the newer 08 powered sliding window would fit?

I believe the shape of the opening is the same, so it will fit.
On a side note, where do you get a replacement latch for the factory Manual slider?

With an 01, the backlight is mounted and set in a rubber gasket.

With an 08, the backlight is mounted and set in urethane.

There was a Ford Accessory power sliding window that Ford introduced as early as 1999/2000. I almost bought one of the prototype/show models back in 2000, but passed after deciding that I'd rather keep a seamless solid glass back there.

CRLaurence is the company that made the power sliding rear window for Ford Accessories back then, and CRLaurence still offers that window today.

Since it is gasket mounted, not set in urethane, be aware that there are two different styles of gaskets. You do NOT want the gasket for the solid pane window. The powerslider takes a different gasket, and it comes with the CRLaurence model.

Ford Accessories may or may not still offer the version with the Ford part number on it, but that might be worth looking into as a more expensive, but not necessarily more authentic option for the time period of 2001.

You'll want the retrofit kit, versus trying to use an 08, because the retrofit kit comes with all the wiring, the harness, the switch, the switch bezel, the gasket, the screws and nut serts to mount the motor, the screwjack cable and cable stabiler, and even a vibration isolation pad for the motor.

The rear cab configuration can be different also, between the 2001 and the 2008, even where both cabs are seemingly the same. The differences are in the interior back wall trim, the child tether seat anchors, the C Pillar trim, the rear seat, and the bottom tray behind that rear seat. These differences are subtle, but they are important when it comes to mounting the POWERED sliding window.

Why? Because of that big electrical motor and screw jack cable. The cable has to have a smooth arc, and the motor is relatively large, and has to be mounted somewhere. The people who designed the window figured out the optimal position of both the motor and the arc of the driven cable in order for the window to work RELIABLY, without the cable binding as resistance builds up from debris in the track.

The kits for the 2001 have templates to illustrate exactly where cut the back wall interior trim, that dictates where to mount the motor, and how to route the drive cable. I think that would result in an easier install that retrofitting the later model OEM power sliders.

Unless, you can get an 08 take out cheap enough... but I rather doubt it. You can get a complete CRLaurence kit for about $600. By the time you get all the bits and pieces to complete an 2008 retrofit, including wires, switch, relays, etc, I'll bet it would double, if not treble the kit price.

Very good points Y2K, there is a lot more to consider than just the window fitting in the opening..

You can buy all the needed hardware straight from Ford. I don't know that it will be quadruple the price, but it will a little bit more, but it will OEM. I will be probably adding a rear slider to my truck eventually, but I have a 2013.

Thanks, and here is more information to be, well, more thorough...

The thread started by asking about a 2008 window into a 2001 cab. That just happens to be the break point where CR Laurence (hereinafter "CRL") divides their inventory as well, between "gasket set" sliders of the 1999-2007 vintage, versus the newer models.

The CRL part number to the gasket set version that works for the 2001 is PSC998S And yes, while I did find plenty of this part number for around $200.00, it was for replacement glass only. I was looking too quickly for a price check. The whole kit motor and all is around $550.00. I corrected the price in the post above.

I used to have the Ford Accessory part numbers, but that was over a decade ago. Sadly, Ford only keeps accessory part numbers for current model trucks online.

If you go on any Ford Parts website besides the actual one, it will have the option to go back to 1993. Infact, using Genuine Ford Parts - Buy Original Equipment, or OEM, Ford Parts Online at wholesale prices. I found all the parts needed to put your 01 to power back window with the exception of the frame to hold the windows in. www.oemfordparts.com is another good one. Let us know how you make out.

I'd say scratch it! My brothers 06 F150 had it and even after greasing etc it could barely move, my buddies 08 F250 care cab has the power slider and his is the same way, barely moves when u push the button. My 04 has the manual slider and I've opened it maybe three times since I bought the truck brand new. I'd do anything to get a factory one piece tinted rear window.......

But without a slider window, how do you carry 10' copper pipe and 20' pieces of house siding? Seriously - the slider saves the day on really long stuff.

Come on! That's what mirrors and twine are for.
