How hard is it to swap out the rear sliding window with a power window. The SD's are know for the rear window latch continually breaking. I would love just to switch it out with a power sliding window. And also mount the operating switch where it goes when it gets factory installed.
sorry i cant help but i want to do the same thing only i want a solid factory tinted window instead of my tinted slider. i want to do it myself if its not hard but if not anybody wanna trade?
My '05 came with the power slider. The end of the cable of that push/pulls the window broke off. I had to replace the motor assembly. That required me to completely remove the rear window.
I was surprised how easy it was to remove the window. With a helper to catch the window on the outside, you simply push out the window starting from a corner. It just deforms the gasket. To re-install, a cord is wrapped around the gasket. The cord is pulled around from the inside to flip the gasket back into place.
There were several vendors selling various window products with instructions that I read before I did mine.
The older Super Dutys are easy, newer ones are glued in.
Ghost - The wiring is the harder part of your swap. Your slider is simple, pull the interior trim behind the seat and the motor bolts in with 3 bolts and plugs in (towards the passenger side) I dont remember if the new slider comes with mounting hardware. I would definitely stick with Carlite. Ford might sell a wiring/switch kit?
Scaler- Im not sure if a factory tinted solid rear window is available, you will probably have to get it tinted afterwards. You shouldnt have any trouble finding someone to trade, any XL and a few XLTs come with solid windows.
Tom- the F150 sliders are different than Super Dutys and they are bolted in.
Thx for the infor Rocky, and everyone else. Once I do the swap, I'll post up with any commenst of how easy it was or problems I encountered.
Thanks guys!
