ok I wanted to go ahead and order head gaskets for my 6.0.the date inside the door says 1/06,i have called 2 different dealers and neither one can tell me whether its pre-common or common.they say they wont even order them until I get the heads off and mic the dowels.and seeing as ford is awfully proud of there gaskets and oil cooler,is there any where to order gaskets without the bolts, and can do better than $450 on an oil cooler?

The head gaskets come with a 20MM dowel openings and also come with step down dowels so they can be used on earlier engines that have the 18MM dowels. The engine build date for the communized engines is sometime in 1/XX/06 so chances are with yours having a build date of 1/06 you probably have an earlier engine with the 18 MM dowels because the build date of the engine will be different from the build date of the truck.
On the right valve cover what date is your engine? They changed the dowel size to 20mm in jan of 06. Does your dip stick have the yellow round handle along with the ficm hold down nuts looks like ufo shape, If it does then chances are its 20mm. If its a tee handle then chances are its 18mm.. look up RIFFRAFF Diesel for prices.

I'm a slow Typer on the IPad!! ^^^ What he said....
Make an account and pick AutoNation Ford, White Bear Lake, Mn. as your preferred dealer. The shipping will be much less through fordparts.com than through Auto Nation but the parts will be much cheaper through Autonation (don't ask it's an internet thing--LOL). You can't get the OEM headgaskets without the bolts but they may be able to remove them to save the shipping weight. The oil cooler should run you about $290 and includes all the gaskets necessary to do the job.
thanks everybody, for what its worth the,it does have the yellow round dipstick, and if your looking at the engine on the left valve cover it says made in 2006,i cant read the other cover because of the ficm, and the ficm bolts are ufo shaped.
I ran into this issue in December when I ordered mine. My truck has a build date of 1/06. According to RiffRaff's site, I was supposed to use the 20mm gaskets. After pulling the heads, we realized we got the wrong ones. My mechanic had slit the plastic open slightly on the end to check the dowel size. This in turn, cost me money, as I couldn't return it for a refund. I had to go to a dealer an hour and a half away to find a set in stock. The set came with the standpipes already, so I had to return them as well.
Overall I lost money from the parts and return shipping. It left a bad taste in my mouth, but the truck runs great now.
Make sure you order the right size!

I just went and looked real good on the ficm and it says Huntsville 6.0 and the number is 110106 and as far as I know, its never been replaced or changed.also someone told me something about the turbo drain tube, being solid or braided??

That would be the turbo oil supply tube. All late 20mm cylinder head dowel engines have the updated solid tube from the factory, versus the steel braided style tube of earlier engines.

Not to this thread, were any 18mm dowel engines put out with the solid turbo feed tube? The reason I asked is because I thought I had an 18mm dowel till you mention that...

Not from the factory. By now however, there are more than likely a lot of earlier engines that have since had the solid line installed at some point.
