I'm about to order the goodies for my stud job, and need to know my engine build date (18 vs 20mm head gasket.) I cannot find any stickers on the FICM at all. I read elsewhere that you can also determine engine build date by dipstick style and FICM mounting method. My truck build date is 01/06 so I need to be sure. My dipstick is the "yellow circle" style and the FICM mounting nuts have the "UFO" style. Based upon that, can I order the 20mm dowel gaskets with confidence?? Thanks so much!!
I just called my local Ford part dept and gave them my vin hoping they could give me the engine s/n. They told me it was 501066732508. Since that number is longer than the usual s/n designation, I'm ASSUMING that the last 7 digits are the s/n. That would make it 6732508 which would make it the latter "commonized" date and thus the 20mm gaskets. Correct??
IIRC 2006 has a production date split for the communized heads somewhere around the middle of Jan. 2006. The dealership should be able to tell you what headgaskets you need.

There is an engine serial number stamped into the back side ( toward the cab ) of the driver side cylinder head that will help you determine the engine build date that is if they are the original cylinder heads. But all of the head gaskets come with a 20MM dowel opening in the gasket and include a 20MM dowel step up adapter so they can be used on engines with the 18MM dowels.
