My thinking is a wire chafed and grounding inside the valve cover to something. If that is indeed the case, can it be repaired or does it need replacing? I know I can't slap some electrical tape around a wire and put it back together bc it's in the wet part of the engine.
Is it possible the coil could ground to anything in there?
Anything is possible. More likely is the coil is grounding to the injector body, which you may be able to repair.
If the wire is chafed and you just need to cover it then I would be concerned about the covering coming off and getting stuck to the IPR screen and shutting the truck off. If you can find something that is safe in the oil and 200 deg temps then might be worth a try. IDK though, I would have to think about that.

You might find someone that's willing to give up a known good set of coils from a bad injector core. Other than that you'll have to replace the injector.
I'm just going to replace the injector. Advanced Auto has them for $250 and I'll be done with it. Any advice on using a reman injector over ordering special online injectors? I'm only replacing one and would think if I was upgrading it would be an all or nothing type thing.
Agree. Just trying to do it tomorrow bc I'm off. They did carry a Delphi injector that's new for around $400 and something.
I'm thinking the mechanical part of the injector is good and it's either the coil or wiring but I don't see anywhere on the Internet, even in rebuild kits, that I can just get the electrical part of the injector.
Just don't want to waste time and money tearing that far into the motor and then half a** it.

Siemens is the OEM manufacturer. Are you sure that the Delphi wasn't a reman'd? Another benefit to the Motorcraft injectors is that they have revised the spool caps (coils) to decrease the incidence of stiction.
Ya don't send it off, you order it from Autonation Ford. The injector is a core, around 180.00 returned to you with core.Give them a call and mention FTE,they are real nice to deal with
I'm up and running again. :-)
Took about 3 hours to replace the injector. They don't give you any extra room on the passenger side. I want to say thanks to everyone on here for their help. I would have been lost without y'all!!! Thanks
Still getting a P0262 code even after clearing on my scangauge. Any suggestions?
Also going to jump on my cooling issue after this cold front moves though so more questions to come. :-)

Try unhooking the batteries, then turning on the light switch for 30 seconds, and see if the code clears first. If it doesn't then check the FICM harness from injector back to FICM for issues. Did you check the coils on the old injector while you had it out?
I checked it with the valve cover off and again with the oil rail off and it was still to ground on two pins. I didn't physically see anything wrong with the wires or the caps themselves. I should have checked it again on the bench but I didn't. :-( Neighbor walked over and forgot all about checking it. I've already dropped it off for a core.

A couple of interesting notes if this is helpful to anyone else. I don't get the flickering battery light at startup anymore and also, the backup sensors are working correctly again. It was giving me false beeps for the past couple of weeks when there was nothing behind me. I'm guessing side effects of that injector being ground. Anyway, just interesting notes.
