My truck has a 4 on the floor and for the life of me i cant figure out how to remove the shift ****. Ive tried twisting ive tried pulling the only thing i have not done is putting a torch to it. Is it glued on? Is the **** rubber covered metal?
You don't say what year you have or even what transmission you have... assuming manual transmission with floor-mounted shifter...
1980-82 are threaded on, 1983-86 are pressed on; if the latter, just pull up & off but you'll likely have to pull HARD and maybe pounding with a mallet from the underside will help.
ya its an 84 4 speed dont know what transmission that is. Ill try at it again tomorrow, thanks.
on my uncles 84 4 spd, we always just use the box end of a wrench that is the same size of the shifter, and then smack the wrench upwards with a hammer
just got it off what i did was i took a flat head screwdriver and a hammer and hit the flat head under the shift **** to break the glue and it came right off. only took me a couple of minutes.
I don't think they were glued on from the factory, its just a press fit. My transfer case **** was loose as well and all I did was wrap a small scrap of paper over the end of the lever before pushing it back on.
