Also...what would a 429- dove block, dove heads go for in your neck of the woods? Or what woul dyou pay for one?
I found one a guy is selling and I gave him a msg... and he said, its not for sale anymore...
For passenger cars, the 429 was available from 1968 thru 1973 model years.
In medium-duty trucks from the late '70s thru mid '90s.
Some of the different versions of the early 429 were:
1) the 429-4V rated at 360bhp,
2) the 429-2V (1969-1970 fullsize Fords&Mercs) rated at 320bhp
3) the 429CJ & 429SCJ (370bhp/375bhp)versions which were optional in 1970-1971 Torino's & mid-sized Mercs,and 1971 Mustangs.
4) the 429 Boss (UNDER-RATED "375" bhp-try 500)found in 1969 & 1970 Mustangs (and two Cougars...or is that a rumor?).
5) The 1968-1971 360bhp version could be found in T-birds (1968-1971),fullsize Fords & Mercs (1969 & 1970),and was the base musclecar engine for 1970 Torino Cobras & Mercury Cyclones.
Starting in '72 Ford dropped the compression ratio to either 8:1,or 8.5:1 for the 429-4V,and went to net horsepower ratings. Most source books I've looked over list 201-205 net horsepower.
The were available in fullsize Fords & Mercs, and the midsize Gran Torinos & Mercury Montegos/Cyclones.
"Truck" 429s can be found in F-600,F-700,F-800, &FT-900 series.
The last 429s had EFI. Horsepower rating was 231-236 net@3,600rpm.
In my neck of the woods, if you luck out and find a 429 at a wrecking yard, and its a sale weekend, and if you (and your buddies) pull the engine, you can drag it out the gate for $120 or so. That's for a complete engine: air cleaner to oil pan, fan to flywheel, exhaust manifolds to motor mounts. (Riceboy buying a Honda 1.6 gets to pay the same amount.)
