Different engine family. Diff mounts, different trans, linkage, accessory drives, exhaust, possibly need diff radiator.

429 is a much better engine, but it's not a drop in swap. Then you'll alway wish you'd gotten a 460 for your trouble...

From what I hear most 360s get the same mpg w/ truck loaded full or not so it would be a good work horse in my opinion. The 429 & 460s were designed for replacing the FE engines in larger cars and soon trucks after 1972-'73 I believe. I would go with the 429 myself but modding an FE is just as easy since all the FE parts interchange with one another so you have a large variety to choose in parts.

You can also make a 360 into a 390 very easily. Just a crank, rods and pistons to make it a 390.

Why go 390 when he could go 428, then he'd only be a cubic inch off. That 429 was a good find though, those are a decent set of heads on it. But there are odds and end's in the swap that eat up money, mostly motor mounts (they can be made urself though) and a bellhousing.

because you can't bore a 360/390 block far enough to make a 428 out of it. But you can stroke it with a 428 crank and make it a 410

429 heads

I took my heads to a machine shop to have them check. The guy told me that theywould have to be cut .030 to clean up. Also have to cut intake side to make intake fit. If I went with 10 to 1 comp. would this be to much for pump gas , or would I have to lower comp. pistons ? He said the dove c heads are closed chamber heads an they were worth fixing. What do you guys thank ? Thanks Greg

I think he's right, the heads are worth it, as for pump gas you'll have to run 92/93 octane to keep it from pinging, but you should be able to still squeeze by on premium.

Remember you have many different headgasket thicknesses around to play with your compression too.
