So i want to put a 429 or 460 in my 79 f100 2wd with a c6, so either or will be fine is there any advantages to a 460 over a 429, and vise versa? I found a 429 for 600 bucks dove-a block, dove-c heads, intake is a 4-barrel 4-DOVE-9425-B with carburetor , is that a good deal? or would a 460 be better?
Well this is the way I look at it. More cubes = more power. A 460 is basically a 429 with a free stroker kit. If you do a search you can find a lot of info on this. Nothing wrong with a 429 at all, GREAT engine.
The dove-a block and the dove-c heads are worth that asking price just as cores. I buy all dove-a blocks that I come across. Dove blocks are the easiest to put 4 bolt mains on, and some even have boss bulkheads that allow installation of a four bolt front main cap. If the block has an A inside a box cast into the front of the block on the driver side, it has the boss bulkheads. If you want to go bigger down the road, a 460 rotating assembly will drop right in. As will any number of stroker rotating assemblies.

I didn't know that about the 4 bolt main deal, thats interesting. The 385 series block is so stout you'd probably need to be pushing some major powe to utilize that.
But one thing about the stroker kits is that most of them are designed for to come up to zero deck height on a D1VE block which has a taller deck height then the earlier blocks. That means if you put a kit of that nature in a D0VE block that the pistons will come out of the block, just got watch for that. I had my D1VE square decked down to D0VE block specs.
