I would like to know what my 429 really is. I was told it is a 429 inceptor but we all know how that goes.
Here is what I know: The 429 orig came out of a 69 mercury murauder the numbers on the block and head are dove-c on heads and this number on the block 9z2573187. Any infor would be helpful thanks.
it is what they call the Thunderjet engine. it is basically the passenger car 429 engine. still a fairly stout performer. not sure what the hp rating on the 429 was, but i think it was around 340hp and 10:1 compression. the true police interceptor engines had D2OE heads on them and didn't come out till 72 and maybe late 71 model year.
not sure of that block number or where you got it from. the casting number is behind the starter and should be DOVE (or maybe C9VE) if it is original. both are good blocks.
everyone who is selling a 429 says it is either a cobra jet or police interceptor engine when it is usually just the passenger car engine.
Thanks for the info Mike, the numbers I had gotten off the motor were on the back next to wear the c6 transmission bolts on. My next step will be to take off the starter and look for the numbers there.
