I have a Lightning dash out of a 93-95 lightning that I want to put into my 93 F-150. Does it just bolt right it or will it have to be adjusted to tell the correct speed, the speedo goes up to 120mph on this one instead of 85. Also does anyone know the number for US speedometer
oh man i would just forget the whole idea all together, i actually ordered one of those hoping to put it in my f150 but you have to go through all sorts of stuff to recalibrate the speedometer, but thats not that bad part, the mileage on the lightning speedometer will be different from the one you have now because it is memorized in the dash itself, so you would have to spend lots of money to get a dealer or whoever to change that mileage legally. you know if you clean it up a bit those things are worth like 200 bucks. i would sell it if i were you man
I think it should fit. Calibration is relative, it depends on tire size and the axle ratio of your truck compared to a lightning. If it is within a few mph, I wouldn't worry. Mine is off by almost 5 mph and it is original ( I know from the little things they put up some times that tell you your speed.) As far as the milage, it is not a crime to have the wrong milage on the odometer as long as you don't claim it as original low milage when you sell the vehicle. In most if not all states, there is a block on the title that you can check that says "not actual milage" or something similar. As long as you check that box when you sell, you're covered.
If at all possible, i am highly interested in performing this also, just would like to know what all is needed to perform the task. if anyone has ever done this, would help out a lot. when you do get this achived, fill us all in.
When someone clicks that box, it throws up a few red flags. I just went through this the other day...the guy whole sold me the truck, checked that box. It was a mistake, people always do that because of the way the sentence is worded, but red flags went up all over the place. I wouldn't do it, and i wouldn't want to buy a truck from you with that box checked.
Primary rig is:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Sunroof, and some 32" BFG Muds .
Pictures are in!!
Then theres:
99' Mustang GT 4.6L
88' F-250 Superduty 4x4 351/c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 with a
3 spd column shifter. Top speed is 65mph, Go Baby Go!
i guess that i missed something somewhere, i have read the posts, and still don't understand about the "red flags", sorry to sound like an idiot, but i guess you lost me, what are you talking about?
Fordpi,
He's just using a figure of speech. It means that he's alarmed that something might be dreadfully wrong with the vehicle if the box on the title is checked that says" not actual milage" or whatever it says in any particular state.
I disagree with that opinion having both bought and sold cars like that. I personally would expect a vehicle approaching ten years old to have high enough milage that the condition would be far more relevant than the milage. I would also question the authenticity of the milage on any vehicle with a spedometer that it didn't come with from the factory, regardless of what the paperwork said.
The gage cluster on my 87 comes right out. Just undo the screws and disconnect the speedo cable and a few wiring plugs. I assume that the 92-96 are pretty much the same. It shouldn't take long to see if it fits.
If both the new speedo and the old one came with a tach, the truck will be at the same speed in a given gear at the same RPM. You can see if the speedo is off by much that way. The little signs that the state troopers put out to tell you your speed are another good way. Unless your truck has really low milage for a 93, I wouldn't even worry about the odometer. That's only my opinion though.
