93 lightning
93 lightning
Need to drop a new(used engine) in my 93 ford lightning. local junkyard has a a 5.8 but it is not out of a lightning . will this make a difference? will i have to replace computer? other parts? or will it be plug and play??
It is a bolt-in if you strip it to the bare shortblock and put the Lightning heads and intake on it but it'll be down on power a bit form the original motor, if you just put the Lightning intake on and don't change the heads it will still work but be even further down on power. If you wanted to get a slight upgrade in power with this swap then you also need to upgrade the cam as well, the stock L cam is a 5.0HO style grind but there are lots of aftermarket cams that are better. If you get a '94+ truck motor it will have a factory roller cam, anything older will be flat tappet and all these base motor cams are smaller than the L cam.
