electronic disrributer

I have heard recently a lot of peiple putting a electronic distributer...first question is that different than a regular distributer? Next is it hard to do and is it worth it?

Please clarify exactly what you mean by "electronic distributor." Most distributors simply contain a trigger mechanism that leads to an external control module. In some cases, this module is integrated into the distributor. The former represents factory Duraspark systems (which a '76 would have) which is perfect for 99.9% of applications, despite marketing hype you may read. There are various brands and topologies that serve the other 0.1%.

Otherwise, your question is about as detailed as me asking you what meat tastes like.

Thanks for the information...now I know I can move on and worry about headers. Also learned that FMC is a perfectionist when it comes to spelling.

If we're here to communicate in written form, then it might as well be done properly. I felt I was pretty subtle about it.

Since we're talking about distributors, I got a question. Is a factory 77 400 distributor a '1 wire' distributor, as in the one wire coming out goes to the - on the coil and it's a 'points' distributor, correct? Is a 76 360 distributer points also? My 360 had a plug on the distributor that plugged into the wiring harness and that is the only wire I changed in my engine swap(360 to 400, 76 f150 with a 77 f250 engine), and now it's not sparking.

I agree, meat is delicious.

No, there are three wires coming out of this distributor, meant for Duraspark electronic ignition. PURPLE and ORANGE for the variable reluctance sensor and BLACK for ground.

Nope, should be the exact same as I described above.

The connector described above should be the same for both distributors (3 wires total). You also should have had to disconnect and reconnect the horseshoe connector that goes to the coil, as that's tied to the truck harness.

If either truck had a different connector than what I've described, then something was changed and it's not plug and play.

Something has been changed. I should have said I have a Holley projection kit on the truck so I have about 35 more wires than I should and I also have a inner fender mounted coil,2 actually as I thought one was bad. The 400's distributor was only 1 wire. The 360's distributor had the plug and in the same harness had 2 more different plugs, but I tried wiring the wire from the distributor directly to the negative on the coil, did I mess up?
