PIP circuit question

Hi there, quick question.
I pulled the code "Ignition Profile Pickup circuit failure"... what exactly does the (PIP) circuit do? Would it explain my constant flooding?

thanks for the help!

The PIP module in inside the distributor.. probably the hardest sensor to change on the vehicle because you have to dismantle the distributor to replace it. It senses the rotation of the distributor and tells the computer when each cylinder is at TDC.. all referenced to #1 cylinder. A fault in this module would certainly make the motor run like crap.

Well that sounds like fun... I do have another distributor off another engine, maybe I'll try that one. Thanks for the info!

The PIP is signal from the TFI module to the PCM module.
The device inside the distributor is the Stator Assembly, some call it a pick-up coil.
If you have a bad Stator Assembly then the engine will not run or will stop on you.
I would look at the TFI module first.

A bad PIP signal will not explain your constant flooding.

The TFI is brand new and I tried a few used ones before to see if it made a difference. I tested it again and the code didn't pop up. The truck runs, but it gets lagged up with fuel when it idles. It also has an impossible time going more than 80km/h in 4th gear. The timing is most likely off however because it was "adjusted" under improper conditions. I don't know, I've been fighting this problem for a good year now. Massive fuel consumption, idle surging, and rich conditions. Any ideas? lol

You might want to check the Fuel Pressure regulator, it will cause that.
Pull its vacuum hose off and if you see any fuel at all it is bad. But it can also be bad without the fuel coming out.

Yea I checked that the other day, no fuel coming out but I think I have a spare one of those too. It's nice having a parts truck . I'll give that a shot I guess.
