Dizzy Caps

I have a question. I was told that you can run a newer style 2- piece dist cap if you also use the new style rotor on my 69 F E 360 stock Ford distributor. It is supposed to give a better spark. I have put a petronic [ spelling] kit in it now. I have looked but can find no info any where.

Yeah the 76 Ford Dura spark dizzy cap & rotor with the tower and the spark plug wires set.
These caps are have a wider spread point for the contacts for a hotter ign. coil, so they won't get a cross over spark jump at higher rpm. Plus you get to use the whicker spark plug wires like 8mm and up.

The Standard caps can only handle 7mm wires...

That is true. As long as you install both halves of the 1977 and newer cap and it's matching rotor it's a direct fit. Ford did not change the dizzy's housing. Go with 1977 to about 1982 for application to buy them. 1983 and newer got squirrelly with the rotors and caps.

The V8 dizzy cap with the male ends and its adapter were introduced in 1977, not 1976.

Note % in front of the basic part number refers to 1977 at the bottom of the pic.

For some reason. I keep thinking1976 was the last fe's made.

As all my books and other info only list the last fe being in 1976.
Then 77's 302,351,400 ~~~So that's my story g

You are correct Orich as far as the FE's are concerned. 1976 was the last year. But the two piece cap was introduced in 1977. Back then all V8's in cars or pickups took the same cap because all their dizzys were the same diameter with the cap notch in the same spot. So say a 1978ish 460 two piece cap will fit on a 1976ish 390.

I like to get a set that you can tailor yourself. They leave the spark plug boots and terminals off so that you can custom cut them yourself, depending on how you'd like to route the wires.
