Hi all, some nice person stole my distributor cap and rotor off of my 1975 ford f150 with a 390 last night, I replaced the cap and rotor and checked the spark plug cable firing order 3 times. the engine will turn over slowly but will not fire. it ran like a champ prior to this little incident. when I lifted the hood to find the cap and rotor missing the coil wire was resting on the distributor housing still plugged in to the coil, would this have burned up the coil ? and do you think this could have harmed any other part of the ignition system ? I am looking at thr ford book an i belive this is a distributor with no points. Thanks, Paul
It merely sound's as tho you are not getting the correct postion on the wiring at the cap. Set the motor to TDC, the rotor should be pointing at #1 cylinder, start your wiring on the cap from there. When you are cranking it the way it is now it sound's like a weak battery trying to start it right?
I'm some what new to this truck, i have been working on the little things, it was running fine up to this point, I jumped the battery with my other car because it seemed to be drained as well. the last time i drove it was three days ago. I'm sure it is a Electronic Type Distributor because it matches all the diagrams i have found.
