No start

-27 here this morning, truck was plugged in, plenty of 911 in the tank popped right off but 3 miles down the road she must of jelled up and stalled.. Dragged it into the shop and warmed everything up, plenty of smoke out the pipe, tach is moving, recent oil change (1k) new cam sensor etc... Just wont fire, drained the filter and did some power service in there as well and a new filter, acting like its flooded if thats possible, not hydro locked but def not firing.... No check engine light, wait to start is coming on for 10 seconds or so oil pressure comes up after cranking , Any ideas????

Any chance your fuel bowl heater coil just shorted and blew the fuse? This scenario just happened to my truck and I replaced the coil. All better.

I think his fuse is fine since he said he is getting a WTS. I would be looking at that if he wernt.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me will chime in.

For kicks and giggles, what kind of CPS did you install? Ford or International are the only way to go. As parts store ones can be bad right out of the box.

Also is your HPOP tank filled up to the bottom of the plug?

He's has smoke out the tailpipe. Which means injectors are firing. So CPS and fuse 22 is good.

Whats the temp there ?
How is it spinning over fast or slow ?
Have you checked fuel psi ?

He did say the temp was -27 there, but your other questions are good ones. If the fuel gelled, could it have plugged up the FPR somehow?

Well it finally started, cost me a starter but the old one was less than a year old so they just warranted it and gave me a new one. I honestly think the cylinders were so saturated with fuel it was flooded, finally started hitting on 3 or 4 and after another minute or 3 it took right off.. Lesson learned was start putting some winter blend in the tank or #1 a lot sooner..... Thanks for the ideas anyways...... I can't remember where I got the CPS but it's purple if that means anything..... I have a spare black one in the glove box as well.....

Caution about the stations that advertise that they are selling conditioned fuel. I got burnt that way.

Every winter I always have one tank with number 1 in it. Good thing about 2 tanks. I hardly drive it in the winter, but if I do I'll drive on the #2 tank as long as its above 0, and shut it off on the number 1 tank.

Not sure about the purple one, but there's a gray one from IH that I'm currently using, and that black one is the Ford OEM unit. Not sure what the major differences are, other than materials used and color, between the different colors. I think it has to do with timing or something, but I really have no idea.

My truck seemed to run better on the black one, but it is so expensive, I tried the gray one from IH. Been using the gray one for several years now, AND it's cheaper. Still averaging 18 MPG unloaded in my truck with the gray one, so I consider it a "win-win" compromise.

I'm not sure the difference, but I'm not sure where you are getting the black one where it's so expensive - they are only $23.80 on Riffraff's website. How much is the gray one? Can't be much less...

This was several years ago. Ford was the only place that had the black one, and the gray one was the "new" replacement. At the time, the black ones were in short supply. Ford was wanting ~$75 and it had to be special ordered. IH had the gray one for less than $25. It was a no-brainer economically. I installed that gray one before I paid off my truck in May 2008, so it's been working for a very long time. If the black ones are that cheap now, I may stock up on them. I'm probably pressing my luck by running a CPS this long without a spare in the glovebox. I'll have to take a look at Riffraff. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I was just thinking today about getting one...I've made several "multi-hour" trips recently and I don't have a spare, and I think about it constantly. I need to go ahead and get one.

Wasn't easy to find on their site, but a "CPS" search brought it up. That is a LOT cheaper than I remember them being. The ZD-11 price isn't bad, either.

Yeah, I should have told you that you have to look under "OEM/Factory". Sometimes those categories are hard to find stuff in. No, GP price is not bad at all.
