On the way home tonight my truck started sputtering as I was driving down the road. It never died but it would sputter and jerk and then kep on going. The check engine light came on and stayed on but I do not have a way to check it myself. Does this sound familier to anyone? I had to replace the CPS sensoe 2 weeks ago, but then the truck died and would not start. I have no clue.
Not sure if it's the same thing, but last week mine started running like crap. If seemed to not be getting fuel. It was running weak and was bucking as I accelerated. I thought maybe the pump, regulator, or injectors were going bad. I changed the fuel filter just to be sure it wasn't something simple. After doing that it wouldn't prime and wouldn't start. Checked the fuse and it was blown. Changed it and the truck has been running perfect. Never realy had a fuse partially blown. I'm still at a bit of a loss on it.
I was watching the tach as you told me when the CPS went out and it was not moving at all. But as BoostRetard stated it is just bucking like it was not getting fuel. Which fuse did you replace? Would the check engine light come on if t it was a fuse?
I'm not sure what you mean by sputtering, but when my CPS went out the truck would "cough" like an old gas engine and then continue to run fine for a while. The cough was like a small backfire through the carburetor that would cause a moments hesitation then the engine would pick back up like nothing ever happened. The light came on after the second time and stayed on. I took it straight to a mechanic and the code came back CPS. Hope this helps.
Do you hear the fuel pump coming on at key on for about 20 seconds?
Just to be sure check the CPS and make sure it is still tight and the connector is clean and the wire is not chaffed where it runs close to the pulleys.
these trucks will run with a dead fuel pump just not well and with the same symptoms you have described. if it is the oe fuel pump I would have somone check the fuel pressure. I just had to replace mine this past tuesday and it acted just like you are describeing, now it's running nice and healthy. just my .02 worth
My check engine light did not come on. I may still replace the pump just to have peice of mind. Something caused the fuse to blow. That isn't that normal. I can't remember which I replaced. I think it was 19 or 30. It was a yellow 30amp under the hood. Truck is running perfect since it was changed.
