Went for a drive today in my Wifes 2003 F-250 5.4 automatic, Parked it and went for a hike, came back , started the truck ,put the it in reverse and it was running real rough.Put it in Drive and still running rough, figured i would put the truck in low and see what happens. It ran fine.Got home and did a visual inspection on the tranny, didnt see anything that jumped out at me.Fluid was fine.Any ideas of what this might be?
Thanks For any advise on This Issue!!

I think you meant 5.4 because Ford doesn't have a 5.7. My first thought is a coil pack on its way out, Have the truck scanned, even if it didn't throw a CEL it might have a pending code stored..

Thanks Bigpipes.Changed The Engine size in The description.BTW what is a CEL?
Bad coil pack, dirty throttle body plate or mass air sensor, or it could be the idle air control valve. All are fixed with a simple can of intake cleaner but the mass air needs mass air cleaner ONLY
Got it hooked up and as you all suspected a coil on the #2 cylinder.Gonna have all 8 changed just to be on The safe side..Thanks again for all your Help..
]Experience has shown, the ford Motorcraft coils will be a better replacement.
I have several of these modular ford engines, and have repaired hundreds with this same problem.
I have seen the high end coils from almost every manufacture , fail in short order.
The Motorcraft coils do fail, but not with the frequency of others.
Let me add, purchase of a code scanner for the OBD2 is a life saver, as it gives you the ability to trouble shoot a problem , even if you don't have the ability to do the repair yourself.
This will ultimately save you money if you need to take it to a shop for the repairs.

Glad you got it figured out, and a word of advice, if it were me I would just replace the coil pack on the number 2 cylinder and call it good. If they are motorcraft packs there is no reason to replace them as it is just a waste of money. The other packs could go another 100,000 miles without issue. Like ARC said get yourself a scanner that can read codes and pending codes and next time you can check it yourself..
Thanks for ALL The advise ,unfortunatly i had ALL of the coils replaced just to be on the safe side, mechanic said if 1 goes all of them could go,Lesson learned tho, seems i always learn the hard way on stuff like this.Ita all good tho.Have a GREAT Year Guys!!!
