You should check with your state dept of motor vehicle registration for current laws on this subject. Each state is different. Sorry.

Each state will be different. Here in MD the truck has a registration and the trailer will too. Each is independent of the other.

Some states will want you to have for the GCVWR of truck and trailer. (truck registration).

PA state website should help you to narrow it down.

I've had my truck now for about two years, and I realize with the older 6.0 engIne I'm a big fish in a little pond when compared to the newer powerstroke engines, but with 25,000lb gross truck and trailer this truck pulls like no body's business! I can't imagine what the new trucks are capable of, and for the money and for what I do with my truck I don't care (I will definitely feel this way as long as I can't afford the new stuff I'm sure)

In PA, the weight registration on the truck has to include the trailer if the trailer is registered over 10k (10,001 and higher), OR if the trailer actually weighs over 10k.

PA doesn't usually bother checking non-commercial vehicles, but you never know.

Good deal. Maintance, checking those fluids when towing goes along way towards a successful trip. That goes for a new or older truck.

PA Motor Vehicle Code (Title 75)

subsection 4942 - Registered Gross Weight

(c) Combination - No combination containing a trailer having a gross weight or registered gross weight in excess of 10,000 pounds shall be operated with a gross weight in excess of the registered gross weight of the truck or truck tractor for a combination.

I hope this helps.

So it sounds like if I'm pulling a trailer 10,000 and under I'm good, but if that trailer is registered for 10,001 or better you need a combination registration no matter what your actual scale weight is!
