Ok ... I have a 97 F-150 4x4 5.4 V8 3.55LS axle and the owners manual says for towing max.gcwr is 12,700 lbs , max trailer weight is 7,700 lbs , maximum frontal area is 60ft2. what does GCWR mean? the trailer weighs around 5100 how much can i put in it?
The GCWR is the weight of the truck, the weight of the trailer, and the weight of all passengers, options, and gear. You should never exceed this combined weight.
I'm assuming that the max trailer weight is what is listed in the manual. You have to look at the Gross vehicle weight for the trailer. Look in one of the cabinets in the trailer or the VIN plate on the streetside of the trailer for the GVWR. This is the maximum that the trailer can be (trailer weight and all gear and fluids (water and gas)). Find out the GVRW and then take the trailer to a truck scale and weight the trailer. The difference will be what is the maximum you can put into it.
You will be suprised at how much stuff weighs. Take it to the scales, you might be suprised. Most trailers that have been on the road a while are over-weight.
gcwr of 12,700 lbs means that the combined weight of the truck and trailer can be no more then that. the max trailer weight means that as long has your in your GCWR that the heavest trailer you can tow which is. max trailer weight is 7,700 lbs , maximum frontal area is 60ft2. the max frontal area means that the area of the front of the trailer shouldn't be more than 60 sq ft. so you can put a total of 2600 lbs in the trailer, if your within the GCWR, so take the trailer and truck get it weighed, the do 12,700-the weight of the trailer truck combo, and the smaller of the last two is the max you can load the trailer up,
