Hi everybody, I'm new to the forums and need help with my 1971 f250 with a 390.
So when I bought this truck about a year ago the guy I purchased it from said he rebuilt the carb but didn't do it right so it never seemed to run quite right and the back barrels didn't open.
So a couple months ago I had enough money to start working on her and bought a rebuilt holly 4 barrel from a guy off craigslist and installed it and fired it up and she sounded and ran just fine but idled kind of high. So I took her to the gas station to get gas and she wouldn't start back up. I had her towed back to my house and couldn't get her to start the rest of the day.
The next day I bought a new battery cuz the one in it was 7 years old and replaced the coil, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Still having problems.. I can fire her up cold with no problem , warm her up and take her around the block but when I come back and shut her off she won't start again even a couple hours later when she is completely cold. I can fire her up probably about 6 to 8 hours later though... Please help...
I can't rember if your distributor is points or not. If it is points check them and see if they are out of adjustment or burnt up. If it isn't points then it could be a ignition control modual. Also check ground wires a bad ground or hot wire could cause the problem. The wore maybe getting hot and loosing its conductivity
