I own a 2002 250. I purchased it with 136k, and have put 4000 on it. Had it towed earlier in the day after getting stuck in the snow. I had to be pushed up a very steep driveway to get hooked up. Later, I was driving over a bridge and heard a chirp as if a belt was slipping. Then, no gears at all. I coasted over the bridge, the van was running but could still hear the chirp. Once I came to a stop, I turned the van off. Now, it will not start for anything. Fluid levels are all normal. Had it towed home, and am clueless. Any suggestions?
Its possible there is towing damage to your transmission now. I'm told when these vans are flat towed, that is not being on a roll back rig, the transmission pumps are damaged.
If we're fortunate user Mark Kovolsky will weigh in on this topic---he's our resident Ford automatic transmission expert, a former engineer on Ford tranys in fact.
I'm assuming they towed your van more than a few feet? If I'm correct you need to perhaps address this to the towing company--they should have known better.
The driveway was at least a quarter mile long, very hilly, and had 2-3 inches of half-frozen slush on it. When it was hooked up, it was being dragged through the muck more so than the tites rolling. After being pushed up one hill, and through a round about, it was hooked up. The bumper was rotten and collapsed. Then it was towed out over fairly steep hills of the driveway. I was concerned about the way it was towed, but there was no other option. The tow driver had a terrible time getting down the driveway to where I was I in the first place. So long story short, it's headed to the tranny shop. I still don't understand why the engine won't start though. You can hear the engine turning over, but it seems like there's no spark.
The engine no-start could be a lack of fuel delivery. That will have to be addressed and corrected before the trans shop can do anything. Hopefully they have the capability to diagnose/repair that as well.
What a nightmare! Checking fuel and spark today. Fuel pump is working, but that's all I know so far.
Dumb question though---is there fuel in the tank? Did the towing maybe damage it?
Check the fuel filter too. If it would start fuel pressure could be checked. I think but don't know for certain checking that can be done with key on, at least to a point. It would show if there is pressure to the rails.
Yes, there is! I'll check the tank for damage, but I don't think it's likely. It absolutely will not start though. I'm racking my brain trying to connect transmission issues with a no-start. The van drove about 50 miles after the tow before it died on me.
