Just wondering about those brass valves to replace the coolant block plugs, good, bad idea? 2004 6.0

Thanks

Though I haven't done it myself I think they are an excelent Idea. Main reason is that you can attach some tubing to at least the one over the starter to prevent you from saturation it or both sides for being Eco-friendly and capturing all the drained coolant.

another bonus is when you eventually do it agian it will bee that much easier.

on the subject of fumoto valves not a fan of the oil pan one too worried about catching it while off-roading and shearing it off. I do venture in some sketchy placed quite often though.

I was thinking of only doing the Coolant block plugs, Just dont know about the durability of the valve, hate for it to fail as your driving down the road.

Mine have been in for 2.5 yrs now and no problem. The number for the block drains is F-108N.

The number for the oil pan is F-111N.

The N means it has a nipple to attach a hose to it. On my block drains I have hoses run to one point so I can catch the coolant when it comes out. The passanger side you have to remove the starter to insall which only took me about 45 minutes. And even with a hot engine I can open and close the valve with a leather glove on. If you look around you might beat those prices by a couple of dollars. <!-- / message -->

I think if you shear one off you will have damaged more than just the fumoto valve. I have a leveling kit on mine but even so. JMHO.

I hear ya on that!
I know its mainly just a paranoia issue for me, but I'm thinking a branch that springs up just perfectly to snag it. My kinda luck for that to happen. For me its the ONE thing I did not think to have with me that goes "wrong." Still doesn't stop me from going out and having fun though. 99% of time nothing bad happens.

Those valves are pretty stout. If you get something solid enough jammed high enough to actually damage one.... Like the man said you'll have more problems than just coolant loss at that point. You could always get the non-nippled ones to reduce that remote possibility some more. For me, I never could get the hose thing to work. The nipple points directly into the starter and I can't see where there's room.

But once they're in they're very easy to work with, but what no one tells you is you have to get VERY friendly with your drivers side tire if you don't want to crawl on the ground. Your SO may get jealous.

I just use a creeper and go underneath to work the valves, and yes it is a tight fit with the hose on the starter but sure does make it nice when flushing.

I'm all for the block plugs / coolant ones just haven't got that far down the list yet. Its the Oil Pan one I am concerned about.

Yeah getting up that far to the block plugs I'm definitively walking home and depending on how deep in I am probably considering abandoning the truck permanently ;-)

I was more concerned about the Brass valve cycling between hot and cold and the seals going bad, I dont plan on abusing them. and thanks for the input.

Just did mine a few weeks ago - right before the temps dropped to -15.

Be prepared for a fight with the plugs....I wound up using an air chisel.
