The one on the passenger side is the PITA -- it's behind the starter. The driver's side is by the oil filter, but be careful -- one is in the oil passage...
That's true, but you can speed things up by doing that (fewer flush cycles), and by pulling the thermostat up until the last fill so you don't have to warm it up (no hot water to drain).
I've got a steel wash bin that's big enough for all the water. It's easier and quicker for me to just drain the block 3 or 4 times than drive it around. I'm also doing an oil change and installing my oil HPX line at the same time so it won't be very drivable during that time either.
That's one of the reasons I pay $400/year in registration fees and $3.60/gal for diesel to live in San Diego...every day is a nice day to work on your truck!
Good point Brian... And if you're already doing all that, you might as well add a coolant filter from Bob @ Dieselsite (I see you already have the 203* 'stat & housing)...
The coolant filter is in line after I get another tranny cooler, upgraded headlight harness (mine are worthless, even with the Silverstar Ultras) and a Rancho steering stabilizer (the stock one only reduces bump steer and don't get me started on off-roading).
Since the tranny is a weak link and I have 152K I think the tranny cooler and the FTVB with a flush and switch to full synthetic should help extend the life of my 4R100.

registration here is only $157 would be bout $90 for yours fuel $3.43 miserable hot year round
Damn I hate this place (think I would hate calif worse)time to go back to the mountains
Sounds like you got things planned out pretty well. I'm planning on a good coolant flush, filter, and 'stat in the spring. Would like to add the big cooler as well, which I may do then as well. I won't be driving it this summer anyway (tour in Iraq coming up), but the wife probably will so I'll have it good & ready for the 110* summers (about 20* cooler than where I'll be!! ).
