Yeah that had me concerned as well. he led light bars don't have fans why does 1 led need it? i know its a higher powered led but still kinda sketchy.
The higher wattage LEDs produce a HUGE amount of heat. The LED bars have heatsink and the newer LED housings are basically one big heatsink. So it doesn't surprise me that they have a fan on a 50watt led, the area to place a heatsink is so much smaller.
my bro in law has them on his 06 E-series van. look really nice and seem to brighten up the road. But his dash always says his high beams are on. Kinda annoying
Do you have any pics? That's odd, my hids use to cause my abs light to go on but that stopped after a while. Maybe use an led light for the high beam light? That ways it's either on or off bot like half on or something.

I can get some but I don't know how to post pics on here
It's easy, just go onto Photobucket.com and make an account (it's free) then after that you upload the picture and there will be some codes on the left when you open them. Copy the image code and past it in the reply box on here that you usually use to reply to threads.

Do you have pictures of the beam pattern on the road? I'm interested to see if they would cause glare in other drivers eyes like HID retrofits do. (i apologize i meant HID conversions not retrofits!)
them surface mount leds get extreemly hot like that! thats why the led has a fan.. some people put them in their domelights, im really suprized no ones had a fire yet from them.
as for headlights, im sure those fans would be shot in no time, and the leds would over head and burn out.
Retrofits don't glare. The problem with most of these other bulbs in the stock housing is the fact that the reflector housing is designed based on the light coming from a specific point. When you put the hid or leds, the point of light is different which is what causes the glare.
I found this online, you guys might find this interesting. i think the reason i find my HID's not to be the best is that i am running 55w 8000k which produce roughly 1180 lumens (no projector either) where as if i was at 6000k i would be closer to what those led headlights put out in lumens (i let my cousin talk me into the 8000k's i wanted 6000k).
Found this on another site, these are numbers for HID's behind projecors as well so like justin with his projectors will gain no benefit out of the led's really but if you just converting you might see a decent improvement.
Standard OEM halogen 55W 9006(HB4) = 1100lm (lumens)
IMHO retrofits are the best way to go based on Justin's results. HID conversions say they get the same numbers but the light is unusable basically because its spread everywhere and just pisses people off lol. Only reason i have kept mine is because they are better than stock and i bought them and wasn't not gonna use them lol. LED's may not be a bad choice if you don't want to spend the extra on retrofits though i honestly cant say though because i haven't had them in my truck. I personally would like to see them all against a wall to see the difference in light patterns.
IMO going from best option to worst based on usable light output would be
-HID Retrofits
-LED or HID conversions
-Halogen
The HID conversions are subject to what color temperature you are running as well because in some cases i bet they could be better than the LEDs or worse but nothing beats an HID retrofit. check out justins build thread (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-thread-3.html) what he got out of that is incredible.
