LED headlight conversion any good?

So i was talking with my cousins over Christmas and i didn't even know but hey make led conversion kits for headlights like HID's but they seem to me like they would be bright and have a "cut off" not to glare in other drivers faces. They have a downward facing led and an upward facing one that is used as a high beam. Anyone have any experience with these? Personally i would gladly spend the money to get good light output and not **** other people off.

Here's a link to one as an example.

Look at the video closely when they show the high beams, they do not light up the road very far!

I am not very impressed and wouldn't waste the money on them.

I didn't even notice that good point! Although the high beams on HID kits are a joke as well they don't really do anything but move the light maybe a foot or 2 up on the road. I don't know if these cause any glare or not but looking at the bulb it looks like they might not or at least probably not as bad. I figured these would be worth looking into though its cool to see how LED's are coming along. I looks at a couple more video's that were shown after that one ended and there are a few of people driving with them at night and they look decent.

I thought they were only making fog lights and low beams, didn't think there was anything good enough for high beams yet...I was looking for some for my sled

It's interesting for sure though, I kinda want to get them and try them but i don't want to spend the money and then hate them and go back to my HID's...although i guess if i got the ones on amazon i could return them withing a few days.

was my first thought too, but every housing is different and may react differently to our lights.

so matt if you wanna go ahead and try them and let us know how they work that'd be great.

I'd only be interested in those if I modded the wiring so the highbeams were "on" all the time.

lowbeam output is eh...better coverage with highs

After watching the video I would wait until the technology is ready. It appears as though in low or high the lights dim after a second or two. Thanks for sharing though.

I have to wonder if an LED generates enough heat to keep the lenses free of ice . . .

I don't know why they're dimming like that. It defeats the purpose. They also have a very low lumen level. My 4300k hid is 3300lumens. At 1800lm that is almost half the output. I looked into these before I got my HIDs and they're just not there yet. JW speaker and truck lites make LED conversions for jeeps, so an xl truck may be able to benefit. But there is nothing out there that I've been able to find that can even match halogens in output for useable lights. Just bulb technology won't be enough. They need a projector like jwspeaker to be enough to safely drive at highway speeds

I would look at some of the other videos that show up when that one ends, it isn't the greatest video. As far as heat I'm not sure but there is a fan and heat sync to cool the leds so they might heat up enough. I did find a video a while ago where they looked good but he had projectors.

thats another thing that scares me, how long before that fan goes out, ya know? i thought LEDs didnt produce hardly any heat (part of their efficiency)?

Yeah that had me concerned as well. he led light bars don't have fans why does 1 led need it? i know its a higher powered led but still kinda sketchy.
