I was driving with my windows rolled down today since its like 50* in december (wtf?) and noticed when i took off from a stop sign, my truck was squeaking/chirping/ticking. combination of that... If i just let off the brake and let my truck roll it squeaks a little, but as soon as i give it throttle it gets louder and faster. Stops instantly if i let off the pedal, and it either does it up to 10mph or i cant hear it over that. Didnt do it revving it up in park either
So i get home and jack up the front end, spin the tires, dont hear anything abnormal. Jack up the rear end, chock the front tires and put it in neutral and i went under and started spinning the driveshaft. Heard a ticking that got louder the closer i got to the trans, and the best i can determine is its coming from the rear of the trans. This is the best video i can get for now, and yes its supposed to be dark in the beginning. You can hear it clearly in the beginning

That's not good Miles.

I'm with tom, that's not normal at all. I wouldn't drive it unless you have to until Mark chimes in. Hopefully it's something you can get away with some minor work and not a rebuild or replacement
Can't tell much from the video, to much background noise. The most likely thing from what's described could just be a dry u-joint, Easy fix and with none greasable u-joints there going to go dry eventually.
I sure hope so. Would a bad u joint squeak as well? If I'm in drive and just let the truck roll under its own power something lightly squeaks and then gets louder with speed not sure if I'm dealing with 2 problems here or what. When I was spinning the drive shaft the carrier bearing was making a squeaking rubber noise so maybe it's that
Just went out and spun it again, definitely dont think its a u joint. Still seems like its coming from rear of transmission/maybe transfer case. Trans fluid level is good and smells good (i changed it less than 5k ago), transfer case was also just changed under 5k ago with mobil 1 ATF. It also doesnt make the noise if i spin the driveshaft in reverse, and i didnt hear anything when i was driving in reverse yesterday either
You can hear it in this entire video, just need to turn your volume up. It seems to be loudest around :41 though
not sure whats related, but i think the throttle position stuff is related to a problem ive been having with some surging switching from drive to reverse and such
