It all boils down to the max cfm of the engine.

If you change throttle body size, exhaust, some cams, maybe a supercharger or turbo, than a upgraded intake is reguired.

But Banks has te power pack, all they change is the air filter and the cover for it. So, yes, the stock intake is prob plenty good for 99% of the V10s out there.

I have the stock intake, paper filter and the zoodad mod on my V10. Using the Torque app or other OBD scanners you can see what your intake air temp is. At anything above idle speed (in traffice) my IAT is within 1* of the outside temp. Not sure about how much CFM the V10 requires at a given RPM or if any real gains can be had. I know I like the sound and the look but that isn't enough for me to spend the money on a kit.

Actually the Ex's and I guess the pick-ups do have a stock cold air intake since the intake terminates a couple inches from the grill and is well out of the warmer engine compartment so all the lies about ram air, direct air, more hp, more mpg, etc, from the makers of "cold air intakes" mean nothing and I am wondering what happened to the false ad laws.

Also, I think that hole in the filter housing was an afterthought designed to mix a little warm air to get the perfect temperature for the modular engines. I might start selling my own cold air kit.............duct tape with instructions included in the box........lol.

Zoodad mod here as well. Save your money on a "Cold Air Intake".

I can prove using my Scangauge II that the IAT temps dropped 10-15F by doing this alone. Even if it's nothing more than peace of mind while sitting in traffic, it's good mod in my eyes.

the Gotts mod is almost the same functional wise. just fender drawn

The temps dropped 15* after the intake was a little more direct? And are you sure the engine likes colder air? I gotta get out of this thread before it gets redundant.......see ya.

I'm talking about a 10-15f air temp drop at the manifold in 80-100f ambient air temps. So yes, the motor likes that "cooler" air charge. It doesn't heat soak the intake, so more timing/fuel can be applied. That equals better performance and efficiency.

Otherwise, PCM will pull timing and fuel as the IAT gets hotter and the motor performance suffrs. Saw it all the time with my supercharger. Fun and powerful when cool, but once I heat soaked the intake, PCM restricted everything to keep motor safe and performance went down the toilet
