I just picked up a 2004 Lariat 4x4. It had some Mossy Oak cammo on the lid of the console...Wife not a big fan of the cammo so I peeled it off to reveal the stock woodgrain underneath. Either the cammo was put on to cover up the peeling clear coat "lacquer" finish or the cammo took it up when I peeled it off. Either way, I now have a lid with about half the shiny coating removed. Any way to "refinish" this?....Like spraying new high gloss poly on it? Anyone else have this problem before... I don't really want to buy a whole new center console.
They get micro scratched up anyways. I just clip a sheet a paper to cover it, so it doesn't bother me. If someone gets a group buy, it might be a good stocking stuffer for Big Green.
Well I refinished the console lid. Instead of sanding it, I used duct tape and peeled off the remaining clear coat. I used 400 grit sand paper to prep the surface then primer with clear plastic primer. Once that was dry, I sprayed a high gloss clear on top...turned out really nice.
One note...the newly finished "wood" is not as dark as the original. Either the age and sun darkened the original "clear coat" or it had some brown tinting to it. It's not immediately noticeable, except when the car is in full sunlight. Otherwise, the wife is happy.

I'll take some pics of the finished product. Didn't take any of the before or the process. Got to get it back from shop. Wife hit a deer on way to work 😩
