GB, your 38 is a cool rig! The 59 is neat too, should be plenty reliable with the Cummins. I've got a 6BT in a Dodge with 212,000 miles on it, it's just getting broke in!
I was looking closer at some the pics of your 47, and is that PAINT on the frame? I never see any on a frame that old, it's seldom scene on the 70s frames. I can't wait to see what you do with it, keep us posted!
very nice solid looking truck indeed! I like your winch setup with the tilt deck trailer.
Winches work so much better than wenches too...
speaking of parts for a 47 (which it does not look like you'll need any ) unless you do some sort of crazy 4x4 conversion?
here is my parts truck that I need to unload, I was going to try to pull some more parts from but just need to make more time I guess if it's going to happen. Non-Running Cars Classifieds for Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming | ksl.com
Thanks, but maybe if this was a bit closer I'd be thinking harder. Really is a lot of good stuff there. I love parts trucks, and yours is a really nice one.Gonna let my cylinders soak for the weekend while we go visit my wife's grandchildren, then see if I can bust 'er loose next week.
Well we got home after dark and now tomorrow is monday morning, always heck for a small business owner. I did have a chance to go into the attic over the cabinetshop to look at the 'really nice' 59 ab I took out of my old 38 tonner. It has about 5000 miles on a total rebuild. Lets just say it's a bit dirty and surface rusty. Not bad, but I realize I pulled the valves, guides and lifters for a 'back of the cabinet shop rebuild' on an 8ba for a '51 I did about 15 years ago. Funny how time creeps up on us. The attic has big openings for windows that I never installed in each gable end, so the night air drifts through. The reason for pulling the engine was the machine shop mistakenly installed std rod bearings on the 10 under crank and it never had good oil pressure. I pulled the pan and made the discovery and the shop sent me the correct bearings, but by this time the rod journals were slightly out of round so I never trusted it. If my new truck's engine is stuck real bad, I might just get the crank ground on this one and pick up some valves and guides and go adjustable ...... Well I guess I just needed to talk about engines after all those grandkids and relatives. I'm still hoping the original engine will break free this week. Good night from Mt. Pickett.
Started collecting used tires for it. Pretty much going for 8.25s for the rear in traction. This will need to be put on one of my other rims, but I paid $17.00 for it at a junkyard on Saturday. I think we later spent $32.00 at McDonalds for lunch with her grandkids. Always looking to build points
No hijack Bob. That is an awesome truck! Can't believe someone from the rust belt doesn't ship it out east! Shipping is easy compared to hideous rust issues!
Sent you a pm about the truck. I think my buddy needs another hoist. We'd have to hide the whole thing at his house, because I fear I may be trying my wife's patience.....
50/50 mix for 3 more days. Pulled the heads this afternoon and found this. Actually the other head is being stubborn. I think I've seen enough.....So many options at this point. My 59 F350 has worked out really well with the cummins 6at and a GM sm465 tranny. The 6at is from the UPS trucks and was set up to replace chev 292 straight sixes. Other than changing to a gm tranny (synchro), it's a very easy swap. It is a turbocharged indirect injected diesel with 220 cu and 120 hp.The radiator needs to move fwd a bit but there's room for 2 more complete radiators ahead of that bar. I have an extra 6at running on a stand with 80 psi of oil pressure and an NOS dodge powerwagon radiator that I think just might be the ticket. Still just mulling this over.......
