Sorry, I meant SPOUT, not nozzle. Can't edit the thread title, apparently. Maybe a mod can edit it for me?
So, I'm fixing to do a compression test on my truck. I started disassembling today, got the VCs off and started the engine to check for any obvious leaks around injectors, odd noises, etc. To my surprise, I got sprayed with oil when I went to the passenger side. Here's what I found on the #1 injector. It looks like the spout was cracked from the inside.
I've never had to pull an injector out of this truck, and I don't know if any were pulled before I bought it. Could this be a casting defect, the result of over torquing, or could it be indicative of a larger problem? I'm planning to pull it after I run compression, but I'd like to hear some opinions first.
In the close-up, you can see what appears to be a hole in the spout at about 4 o'clock relative to the bolt, and it looks like a crack radiates from there up under the bolt itself. What I find really confusing is the large W-shaped crack; it is actually raised above the surface . . .

Reason: Clarify the title.
Wow, strange indeed. As you mentioned looks like it was from the inside out. I think you nailed it though, cast defect or over torque or a combination of both by the previous owner.
Yeah, I guess I should know for sure tomorrow. I guess I'll have to find one somewhere to replace it at the very least. I certainly won't be going to the local Ford dealer for it after they wanted $42.00 for 3 o-rings, though. I LOL'd and walked out.
