The exterior mast screws off of a threaded post. [ Lefty loosey, rightie tightie.] The threaded post is attached to a flange which mounts onto the body panel with either 3 or 4 small screws, and the antenna cable plugs into the bottom of the flange and is routed through the firewall into the cab to plug into the rear of the stereo system.
Good Info!! Are the ones from the Windstar an exact match?
Yes. It was an exact match I'm about 99% sure it was a winstar... It's been a few years.
David it's an option for you now if you can find a van at a junk yard you can use the base and antenna off of it like I did. I did the same exact thing you did trying to get mine apart.
Pop the plastic piece up on both vehicles after you take the two screws out of the base. Carefully pull the base apart from the wire underneath it's just a slip on type deal if you drop the wire down in the fender it's a pita to get back up to where you need it. Everything just simply goes together. I didn't even bother disconnecting the antenna from the base in fear of the same thing happening.
