Anyone have any advice on the cost to replace or has anyone replaced their antenna. I just recently had the misfortune of twisting and breaking mine off at the base. If you have replaced it yourself, can you give a little help with a step-by-step guide on removing the old and installing the new.
The mast just screws on to the base. If the base is intact, all you need is a wrench to remove the remnant and to tighten it's replacement. The replacement antenna mast will illustrate this well.
If for some reason the radio antenna base is damaged:
1. Unscrew the mast.
2. Remove the black plastic radio antenna base cap. Theoretically, it is designed to pry off, but many have difficulty doing so without damaging it. I cut mine off with a utility knife, using vertical cuts from the bottom of the mast downward. A replacement is cheap and available from the dealer.
3. The base is held to the fender with three sheet metal screws that tap into the fender sheet metal. Unscrew.
4. The radio antenna lead-in cable can be removed from the base to enable the base to be replaced without replacing the cable, which is a moderate PITA.
