my truck will not let me do that if the key is in the ignition truck doesnt even need to be running just in the on position and i lock it, it automatically unlocks.
Can't you press 7-8 and 9-0 buttons at the same time to lock the doors with the keys in?
Both of my explorer's allowed that with the engine running (but obviously older technology).
My truck was supposed to come with a keypad (it didn't) and I missed that feature for a long time after having it (still do really).
Because of that, I carry both keys most of the time so I can lock the doors behind me and leave it running.
Won't take long for someone to steal it but every decision may contain a risk.

Yep, 7 & 9 together will lock the doors regardless of where the key is. I use it to leave the truck running if it is either really cold or really hot.
Kper I dunno what I'd do without the keypad, you know you can ADD IT on there for about 60 bucks huh...... Ford dealer or Ebay
My dealer told me that but I didn't know what it would take to do it.
I had this image of them drilling a hole in my door and the truck only had 4 miles on it at the time so I turned it down.
Is it just stick on and wireless or will they have to drill?
Since we're already off topic, did you also know that if you remote start your truck and then decide you don't want it to run after all, you can cancel the remote start by pressing the start button on your remote fob one time, and it will shut the truck off? Also, after starting your truck from the cab, you can go thru the remote start process really really quick and turn the key to off and pull the key out and it will enter the remote start phase and run for as long as you have it programmed for? This one takes practice.
