Me too. Have 100k warranty and at 43k decided it was time. I did it for reliability and engine health. Run the lowest HP tune as I don't need more HP and don't want to risk trans or engine internals. Can't risk engine shutting down in the middle of nowhere due to a faulty exhaust temp sensor. Didn't mind DPF or DEF but EGR is not good for any engine. CCV reroute is next.
Thanks for insight. I'm not so sure the active regeneration is so good for the engine either - the cylinders/valves that are involved in the process must take a beating. It's a longevity issue and one can see how some of this equipment failure may not happen until enough mileage to be out of warranty. Agree with concerns for sensor malfunctions - can leave you stranded and how do you ever know if it's a malfunctioning sensor or the 'real deal' - either way you are potentially stranded or stressed you will be.
Maybe there's room for an aftermarket company to develop a better EGR process/temperature regulation and an inexpensive DPF unit that can be cleaned / or switched with reconditioned unit at each oil change or some other more frequent interval. Preferably no active regeneration process, or an active regeneration that occurs completely with an injector / heating element within the DPF unit and not anywhere upstream cooking the parts on the engine side of the DOC.
Engine/turbo/component damage, equipment failure on the road, and 'truck in shop' time - my biggest concern, and for +/- $60,000 should not be too much to ask. I have my second 6.7 Ford and both trucks have had problems with sensors and one an EGR valve. My teenage son was left stranded with one of the trucks and it was a sensor malfunction but he had no way of knowing that.
Thanks riden. Reading codes won't mark the ECU at all, just looks at the data from the port. Clearing codes will show that something was done if the code cleared posts a historical entry.
ok i confirmed it today, stopped by a shop today down the road from me, he has done many deletes on 6.0s, 6.4 and a few 6.7s now. he did tell me that once you put a tune on its permanently on and can always be seen. they can go on and see how many miles were on the truck when it was done among other things. so what i had read before was incorrect or maybe i read it wrong. so you were correct sir. but i will say it again risk was worth the reward for me, as i said truck is running so much better in my opinion. i put around 500 +/- miles a week on my truck and i dont need it to be down for an EGR issue like my friends cummins was.
Yes, definitely a nice change for the truck. I have an H&S coming that will do the deletes. I'll stick on the shelf until I'm ready to do it, want to get a few miles on the new-to-me F350 before I void the balance of the extended warranty.
MT44 said it, reliability is what i was after. i am hoping to have my 2 1/2 son drive this truck when the time comes, by then should be time to get a new truck.
I had the same idea to buy the tuner and put it on the shelf for a while, got mine back in Aug. I got tired of looking at it sitting there, then ran into a guy that had a deleted 6.7 in town and it was all over from there.
I deleted my 2013 F350 dually @ 5K miles. I wanted the sound, power, and did not want the codes. I travel around 30-35K highway miles per year.. I went form 10.1 mpg to 12.7 mpg in town and around 13.5 mpg on the highway... I did a H&S with SPE HotXX tune and a 5in turbo back flopro exhaust full delete. I did have a issues with the SPE custom tune, BUT SPE was with me every step of the way and had my issues fix within 2 hours. They even had me take pic to send to them what the H&S was reading on the screen so they would not have this problem in the future. The problem was with the transfer of the custom tune from email to the my tuner. From what I am told is that the 2013 fuel systems are different from the 11-12..Not sure if this is true...We had to do a little adjustment on the tuner...Sometimes when I would get on it HARD from a dead stop on the HOT tune it would drain down the fuel rail and kill the engine. SPE adjusted a little on the HotXX tune and 3K miles later in the past month NO other issues.....LOVE IT OO YEA I do not work for the EPA...Good Old oilfield hand here in the GOM......

good info. i am only a two weeks or so since i deleted. looking at your signature sounds like you have a pretty badass truck. love to see some photos posted.
I have 53k on my deleted 2012 H&S running in Performance almost always , 5" flopro turbo back, runs like a top. I did the deletes with 300 miles on the truck and haven't looked back!

I'm not certain with the 6.7, I have read that it is supposed to throw a flag with any tuning, but don't know for sure - but with the 6.0l and the 6.4l if tuned, would just have the same code stored as if you had disconnected the batteries (i.e. nothing that they could prove).
That said, if something goes wrong with my tuned truck, while I may not like it, I don't have a problem having to suck up the repair bill.
From my understanding from my garage, if a tech looks for it, the dates the PCM and BCM were flashed are stored. Do they will know they have been flashed with non stock firmware.

I see you're from Ontario as well, did you buy everything up here ...
