hello everyone, i have a 07 expedition 5.4 w/ 117,xxx miles on it. i started shaking at speeds of 30-50 mph. it shacks like a misfire but no misfire code. it only does this when it has shifted through all gears, and turning O/D off helps alot. it doesnt have a rough idle and accelerates nice on highway, no problems at higher speeds. it only has the p0420 and p0430 codes. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.
You should look at that sooner rather than later, you run the risk of wrecking your cats. You can have lots of misfires before you get a code, you need a scan tool that can read pending codes to fully understand the shaking. By the description I'd agree with misfire caused by either a COP, a COP boot, a plug or an injector. Or multiples.
Evidently I waited too long to have mine checked after a slight shudder I noticed some time ago. The CEL came on while on vacation and drove a long way home with it on. I originally thought it was the plugs that were fouled. It ran fine except for at about 1,500 RPM it would shudder a little bit but would stop after accelerating.
I pulled the codes when I got home and it was P0430. I took it to my mechanic because I didn't want to break any plugs off and he checked it out and confirmed that I needed to change my plugs. BUT, he said before I change my plugs I needed to change out my catalytic converters. He checked for back pressure after removing the O2 sensors and verified that the driver side catalytic converter is trashed and that the passenger side also needed to be replaced.
I will be changing out catalytic converters and then the plugs. I was planning on using universal catalytic converters instead of the costly bolt-in replacements. Any recommendations on particular brands or part numbers would be appreciated.
