I have a 2000 F150 5.4 172k on the motor. So this is my problem i apologize if it is lengthy. If the tranny is in park, reverse or neutral I turn on the wipers they work fine. They turn on and off adjust the speed. Squirt fluid no problems. Put it into drive and the adjustment doesn't work. So if it is raining hard when i start the truck and turn the wipers on before i put it into drive no issues of them staying on. But once i put it into gear I Can not turn them on or off nor will it squirt fluid. So i decided to try and take off the steering colum covers and see if i could find a pinch wire. How do you get the cover over the ignition? I am having other electrical issues also with the turn signals staying on after a few ticks. But that isn't a constant problem witch is leading me to believe it is not related to the wiper problem. Any help with these matters would be greatly appreciated.
If I remember correctly you have to remove the ignition key lock cylinder first. You disconnect the battery so vehicle doesn't start; on the lower cover there is a hole which doesn't contain a screw. That hole you use a probe, {small Phillip's screwdriver, drill bit, etc.} to press a small button and at the same time with key in ignition, turn to Start and pull cylinder assy out.
Ok doesn't sound complicated i will give it a try. Do you recommend changing the switch all together? I seen a post about trying to locate a loose wire and securing it with a hot glue gun. Sounded like a good idea if the part is super expensive. And completely off the subject I have a tick I believe is an exhaust manifold gasket. My thought is to get a set of headders. wouldn't mind hearing a little growl. any particular type you guys would recommend?

Reason: wasn't finished
i would recommend if you have tilt steering checking the wires going into the switch, my wifes 2001 explorer sport had some serious electrical issues with brake lights and turn signals working when they felt like it, pulled the cover off column and found 2 wires pulling out of harness. a little gorilla glue later and all was fine again. just a heads up.
