Hi all,
I just bought a 1995 Ford F-250 Powerstroke, and it is having a fueling problem where it will suck the filter bowl dry sometimes. If I switch tanks or fiddle with the selector switch the light will go off and it will drive fine for a while. Someone mentioned to me that there might be a problem with the screen/filter assy in the tank but does it make sense for both tanks to be having this problem? My thoughts were maybe the selector valve getting stuck in between modes or maybe some clogging going on in there. Any similar problems or known problems that would cause this
Thanks in advance
The fuel filter housing is dry when the problem occurs if I don't switch tanks it will sputter out and die, the first thing I thought of was the lift pump but the po changed (my guess to try to rectify this problem) and if it was the lift pump why would switching tanks smooth the problem out for a while
94-97 PSD have a cam driven lift pump. 99+ 7.3s have a electric pump
Thanks. How hard would it be to by-pass the fuel-selector valve and run off just one tank (since the OP feels the problem could be in the valve) as a test?
I can do that but would have to cut hoses and didn't really want to do that, think I might drop the front tank today and if that looks good the selector valve will be much easier to get to
