After I started my truck this morning,I noticed the filter minder restriction light in the dash was on. The AIS filter is only about 6 mos. old with little dirt on it. I looked at the filter minder attached to the air box, it looked like it was ready to burst! I have the zoodad mod,and there is no retriction in the intake. I tried resetting it,but it would'nt budge. What could cause this? Can I just unplug the connection at the minder till I can replace it?
I tossed mine in the dumpster when I put in the 6637. That thing is worthless -- just keep tabs on the filter yourself and forget about that damn thing. They either get tripped because of tuning, or don't suck in until your filter is WAAAYYY too dirty
The AIS filterminder seems to be overly sensitive. When I installed the AIS, it would pull in about 1/2 way but never trip. I went ahead and did a modified zoodad and that seemed to take care of the problem but it looks like you already have done that. The only reason that I can think of that it would not reset is it has some moisture in it and is frozen up?
The short answer is that you can unplug the filterminder and it will not throw a code or cause any problems. It seems to simply be a switch for the dashlight.
Possibly water got into the minder and froze. That would prevent it from reseting. With the AIS, the filter minders frequently activate just by accelerating hard and there is no problem causing this. It just happens. Mine had popped a couple times when I first put on the filter but hasn't caused a problem for a year now. Checked it just yesterday but I haven't driven much in wet weather.
Had an AIS on my 2002 for a while shortly after they came on the market. Spoke with Donaldson, the manufacturer about this problem because my minder almost maxed out the first time I hit the throttle to the wall on an uphill freeway on-ramp the day I installed it. It is more sensitive than the stock one. The tech suggested I put the stock one on if I still had it, did that, it helped the minder, it only went up half way when I hammered it. Took a trip with the trailer in tow, minder was always at least half way up and EGT's were way too high. Shortly after I returned from the trip I Ford put out a bulletin that the AIS was not recommended for use on a modified engine. While nothing on the market stops more dirt, they are too restrictive, especially if you have the white filter element. There is a blue nanofiber filter element that will flow more air, but I have heard it may not be available anymore. It may still not flow enough if you are highly modified. I put on an AirRaid intake system with a 6" inlet and an AMSOIL nanofiber EA filter element. Filter minder stays down until it gets dirty and the EGT's dropped several hundred degrees.
