Hey guys,
about a month ago I installed a flowmaster 10 series muffler on my 1990 f250 with a 460. It's got the stock cat into 3in tubing into the muffler than dual 2.5in out that dump side by side in front of the passenger side rear tire. It's got a nice tone, but it's not quite as loud as I hoped. I found out that I do not need to pass air care, so im going to take of the cat. It's probably clogged as all hell, and I'm wondering how much of a sound difference taking out the cat, and installing a Y pipe is going to make.
One last thing, to me the cat seems likes its bigger than others, like way bigger than the stock muffler.
Thanks for your input
Jared
EDIT: ok i forgot to mention that it also has a propane conversion, two gas tanks, and two propane tanks. Would running it on propane mane it more quiet?
Thanks for the replies, fastback460's truck sounded good to me but its through my phone speaker so who knows. And ya I ran it just with the cat and it was really quiet so hopefully taking of the cat will make it much louder, because right now its way too quiet. And does the Y pipe make any difference in sound?
lol, it sounds better in person. I used a cheap video camera
And it's only that loud when I step on it, otherwise it's usually a nice low rumble.
Hey,(Fastback460) I played your video here on my computer on my speakers and it sounded GREAT !!!! I LIKED IT !!!! good choice... I have the 40 series with no CATS on my 58 F250 and has a nice rumble to it, still wish it was a BIT MORE, maybe later I'll decide on putting Headers on my 292 Y BLOCK 4.8L and turn it into a dual exhaust... Well anyway in my HUMBLE OPINION I Think your exhaust sounded GREAT.. FYI

Hi, I went to a Local Car show down here where I live in Florida with my 58 F250, and I started a conversation about my 40 series Flowmaster with a guy that had a 1990's F250 w/ 460 also, and he was talking about how he had to take off his CATS to get some decent sound out of his 10 series Flowmaster, also he was telling me that Y Pipe did not make much of a difference in sound... FYI... Hope it Helps
It sounds cool idling but any higher rpms is too much for me. There's a Mustang in the neighborhood behind me that sounds like that and I had to hear it every morning when the owner warmed it up for 15 minutes then drove off before sunup.
I'd love to punch him in the face for that. Please, if you have neighbors near you, think about them before you make them want to move. It's not fun getting woken up at 5 am everyday and having your baby get woken up from her nap because you NEED to be heard.
Here is my 97. 460 with true-dual exhaust with 3" pipes, Series 10 Flowmasters and I think the cats were cleaned out by the PO. 1997 Ford F-250HD Custom Exhaust - YouTube
I've never heard a truck that ran off of propane, so I can't say if that would effect the sound.
