just finished putting a flowmaster on my truck expecting a nice rumble but what i got was pretty much nothing a little louder idleing but thats about it when i put a flowmaster on my old dodge it was extremely loud my truck just passed inspection so the cat cant be bad is it just the fact that there is two cats or what
Sorry to hear that but from my knowledge Ford's are usually quiet put the one muffler on a Ford its not real loud like you said put on a Dodge or Chev its loud they but yea cats quiet the exhaust quite a bit
I had your same setup with the big cat gutted and sounded OK but not the real flowmaster sound. I now have a Bassani Y-pipe with small cat and a single 3 inch 40 series Flowmaster. Sounds good now.
I think the best ways to do it, is either cut off the cats (some people dont like to, and in some places its illegal), or replace them with high flow's.
Once a person removes the cats, you would be surprised at the noise difference it makes (also makes you wonder that if they restrict that much noise, what else are they restricting)
I have noticed this too. I had a 1991 E150 with the 351 and it had no muffler at all. The whole exhaust system was completely rusted away, with only about 16" after the cat intact. I put a cheap Cherry Bomb on it and it didn't do anything to the sound.
The truck I just bought has the EXACT same setup as my old van, but with some super sweet flex pipe clamped to a 2 foot section of pipe that points out the side of the bed. You would never know that it has no muffler.
