Well, after ordering the one from DC and discovering it was too small to go around the filter I found the Airtex FS-72 Can and Filter Kit. The picture showed the straight sided can and not the shouldered can (narrows as it gets away from the threads) so I bought it. Absolute dead on match. I think I'll buy another one just as a spare. About $8 from RockAuto.
Finished rebuilding the carb and mounted it. Now the choke actually works. Hopefully I can vacuum off the acorns and clean out the accumulated crud by the spark plugs so I can finish the tune up tomorrow. I haven't driven it since I parked it after the guy delivered it and I'm getting antsy.
Glad you finally got the piece you been needing what a hunt. Just wondering why you went through all that trouble instead of just getting a whole new pump? Period correct restoration?
The pumps are actually ~$30 and I thought about it. The one I have works fine. I was just trying to replace the heavily damaged can. The one from DC at quick glance looked right and was only $7 IIRC. Plus I was already ordering other items. Just another fine example of costly goose chasing. In the end I probably have $20 in the whole adventure. I certainly was not going to pay the ransom for the NOS ones out there. Just getting him going, the continuing adventure.
