I have to replace my ignition switch. It doesn't make good contact in the start position. I've changed solenoid, cables , etc.
Are there any tricks? I guess I use a paperclip in the hole on the front to remove the cylinder? Do I turn the cylinder a certain direction to remove it and install it? How do you guys remove the large nut holding the switch in place, screwdriver? Is there a tool available for the nut?
Yep. Paper clip does it. Turn your key all the way to the left untill it stops. Push paper clip in the hole and push against a tiny button in there. While holding that button down turn key farther to the left. Remove cylinder and key. There was a tool to remove the bezel back in the day but I doubt you'll find one. I always have carefully used a small screwdriver.
The screw driver works well but can scratch if you have a stubborn bezel, ask me how I know. I found an ignition switch bezel tool if anyone wants one. Custom Machine Components also makes a tool for the headlight & wiper bezel.
