Hi guys i have all my switches removed but the ignition. I cant figure out how to get the thing out of the dash. Any tips? I could sure use them. Thanks
Using the search feature at top, I typed in "ignition switch removal" and came up with quite a few threads regarding such a topic. Here is a quote from daveenglson 7-19-09
To remove assembly, insert key and turn to accessory position. There is a small hole in the face of tumbler assembly and with a paper clip, or some thing simular, depress the pin and continue turning the key counter clockwise and key assembly will come out.
To install, the key has to be in the same position as it was when removed, need to preload the tumbler, depressed and rotate assembly to the full counter clockwise position, then insert the assembly with the key and turn to the on position thus securing the tumbler to the switch.
Questions are welcomed, the use of search can help everyone a great deal, especially if you need an answer right a way.
To tweak that a little, turn key to flat -- then pull it out, don't understand the preload bit, but with the key in the cylinder install in same position as removed and turn clockwise.
Note: I have had one that would go horizontal but the cylinder would not come out. Ended up drilling it (carefully) and installed new one (had to move truck).
i managed to strip a new one out and decided it was too expensive to worry about so i went to autozone and got a nifty little $10 universal switch and just destroyed mine to get it out...
To remove the switch assembly from the dash one needs to grasp the switch behind the dash and push toward the back of the cab and twist. Its like installing or removing a taillight bulb push in, twist and pull. You may have to hold the bezel in with the other hand.
